A local young professional has become the proud owner of an apartment at in Hull.

Alex Mills, 30, has purchased a one-bedroom balcony apartment, overlooking Queen’s Gardens, which is also set for a £7m facelift.

Working as a trainer for a national kitchen company, Alex had saved a deposit to get onto the property ladder and also took advantage of the government’s Help To Buy Scheme.

Alex says:

“I had looked at quite a few apartments around the city centre, but when I compared The Glass House which has all of the extra amenities, it was a no-brainer, as I would be paying the same price but getting so much more. The gym, cinema, private dining room, co-working space, etc., all make The Glass House an amazing place to live and it’s in a completely unique location.”

After growing up in an East Hull village, moving to the city centre has been a huge change for Alex.

“I love city life, every time I go out I get that holiday feeling!

“I grew up in a village where transport and travelling time is always an issue. I really wanted to live in the city centre and have been pleasantly surprised by how peaceful it is. It doesn’t feel so much different to living out in the sticks but has the convenience and benefits of city living.

“After going to the University of Hull, I never wanted to move anywhere else and was fortunate to get a good job in the area. Hull really has got so much going for it.

“My friends came along for Inner City Sesh recently, which gave us the opportunity to experience living in town during the big events and festivals. Iguana Developments put on a social before we went down to the festival, which was a great taste of things to come.”

The Glass House is the latest project by Iguana Developments, the company helping to regenerate the city centre and Old Town area by converting commercial offices into high-spec living spaces.

, Managing Director of Iguana Development says:

“It has always been our intention for people living at The Glass House to have an experience like no other.

“We are thrilled that Alex has been able to buy her first home at The Glass House. It just goes to show that it’s not all doom and gloom for young people wanting to get onto the property ladder. There is a general misconception about affordability. With her own deposit and the government’s Help to Buy Scheme, Alex earns more than enough to not only get on the property ladder but to become a resident at the best apartments ever created in Hull. Plus monthly mortgage payments are considerably less than if she was renting.

“Over the years, we have worked with thousands of young professionals who’ve relocated to Hull and feedback always shows that the lower cost of living in Hull, compared to other cities is a big plus for anyone starting out in their professional career.”

The Glass House has attracted buyers from mixed backgrounds: first time buyers, down-sizers, couples and families as well as a small number of investors and those who want a second home.

The £22m development includes ninety-four, one, two, three and four-bedroom apartments and penthouses with prices starting from £140,000.
