A sign thanking our Armed Forces in the East Riding for their work during the Covid-19 outbreak has been installed by .

The metal sign, featuring the words ‘THANK YOU TO OUR ARMED FORCES’ is designed to be an uplifting message of appreciation to the armed forces which will be visible coming from their base in Leconfield as they help with the Covid-19 outbreak, whilst also continuing to train personnel to serve and protect the country.

The sign was installed last week at the Driffield Road roundabout, where the A1035 meets with the A164 heading in and out of Leconfield.

Councillor , Armed Forces Member Champion for the council, said: “I am delighted to see the sign acknowledging the outstanding support given by our Armed Forces during the pandemic. Service personnel are assisting with the Nightingale hospitals, setting up and operating testing sites, vaccination sites and providing logistical support to the NHS.

“I can therefore think of no better place for it to be than near the which trains members of the Royal Navy, and in all aspects of logistics.”

Lieutenant Colonel Ben Aumônier RLC, chief of staff of the Defence School of Transport (DST) said, “This sign is a heart-warming expression of the East Riding community’s appreciation for all of our service personnel; those of us from DST will regularly be reminded of this as we drive past.

“The soldiers, sailors and airstaff in training and those on the staff here, as well as our many equally vital civilian instructors and support staff, rely on the understanding, goodwill and support of our neighbours and community to do our work. Thank you, East Riding!”
