East Yorkshire Community Groups Receive Grants From YOR4Good Fund

Four community groups in the East Riding and Hull have benefited from a grant scheme set up by five Yorkshire councils and funded by the construction industry.

Driffield Methodist Church, North Ferriby Primary School, Beverley Town Jaguars Under-16s and Rooted in Hull received a combined total of more than £30,000 in the latest round of awards from the YOR4Good fund.

YOR4Good is the community initiative of YORhub, a construction partnership set up by East Riding of Yorkshire Council, Leeds City Council, Sheffield City Council, Scarborough Borough Council and Rotherham Metropolitan District Council.

Together they created three frameworks of approved contractors and consultants which can be employed by local authorities, public sector bodies and third sector organisations for construction projects in the Yorkshire and Humber region.

The grant scheme is funded through donations of money or benefits in kind from the contractors when they are awarded building projects through YORhub, as part of their social responsibility commitments.

The YOR4Good fund recently awarded a total of £184,000 to community groups across Yorkshire, including these four projects in the East Riding and Hull:

Driffield Methodist Church received benefit in kind worth £10,000 from a contractor towards the creation of a community garden/urban green space.
Rooted in Hull, the urban community farming project near Hull’s Drypool Bridge, received benefit in kind worth £10,000 from a contractor towards scaffolding and decking walkways.
North Ferriby Primary School received £9,765 towards the creation of outdoor learning areas.
Beverley Town Jaguars Under-16s received £1,100 to fund a new football kit.
Since its launch in 2011, YOR4Good has supported more than 130 groups across Yorkshire through donations of more than £900,000.

Mike Stathers, the portfolio holder for enhancing communities at East Riding of Yorkshire Council, said:

“This is a fantastic scheme whereby local groups can benefit from the construction projects being built across our region, thanks to councils and contractors working together.”
