Following the initial workshop releases, ArtWaves Festival is proud to be unveiling the full programme for the fifth visual arts event returning to Spa on Saturday 22 and Sunday 23 June, with the ArtWaves Fringe commencing on Monday 17 June.

This year’s event will be the biggest visual art showcase yet, bringing traditional, digital, contemporary and urban art through a vibrant programme curated for all; from the experienced artist to those simply looking to get creative.

The 2019 programme features the return of artists from previous events alongside a mix of new artists to create the festival line up. Attendees can expect to watch demonstrations from award-winning artists, participate in workshops and free drop-in sessions, immerse themselves in installations and much more.

For those with a passion for visual art, a workshop programme has been curated to offer sessions in a wide range of art mediums to varying artistic abilities, these are limited capacity and selling quickly so booking is advised to avoid disappointment.

A key area of ArtWaves is their family focus, engaging the young creatives through their explorer Arts Award Challenge, taking part in activities such as air clay creations, street art, messy activities and creative drop-in sessions.

Favourite festival offerings will be returning in the form of the annual Paint Out by Bridlington Harbour, the Submerge strand of mentored commissions to explore and a chance to release your inner street artist with an Urban Twist.

New additions to the programme are set to engage and entice more visitors with a specially tailored environmental strand, exploring plastic in the seas through creative activities and partnership with RSPB and the strands lead sponsor, The Yorkshire Wildlife Trust.

The festival will also feature a visual art trail taking place throughout Bridlington where the public can search for 30 custom designed birds being housed in shop windows and prominent locations, creating a treasure hunt of art throughout the town.

2019 sees the return of the highly anticipated ArtWaves Open exhibition. This is now live for entries with a closing date of Friday 17 May; all details can be found at www.artwaves.co.uk. There will be a number of cash prizes available and all selected entries will be displayed in the Gallery at Bridlington Spa from Monday 17 June 2019.

The official festival programme is now available online and from Bridlington Spa.

Festival Director Lauren Frost said, “ArtWaves is back, bigger and better than anything we have delivered before. I am thrilled to be curating such a vast mix of visual art for the residents and visitors of the East Riding. Behind the scenes, we are working incredibly hard to pull everything together and ensure that ArtWaves 2019 is the best event yet and we can’t wait to see everyone in June!”
