Cherry Burton are inviting people to join them this Saturday as they look to pay tribute to Ashley Godber who sadly died this week.

Neil Williams, skipper of the Cherry Burton’s second team has issued an open invite to people who knew Ashley to come along to the game which will see them play Kingswood and Bransholme at Cherry Burton Playing Fields.

Speaking about the clubs plans this weekend Neil said;

“Ash put everything into this club, he was Cherry Burton Cricket Club. He was the Chairman, Treasurer and played every week.”

“On Saturday Cherry Burton second team are going to be playing at home.  Ash was vice captain for a season of the seconds and pushed very hard to make sure we fielded two teams each week.”

“He started the second team which I now captain, we are into our third season and the club continues to grow and is more than just a village team.”

 “Anyone who knew him or any of the team are welcome to come up and be part of a the day. We will be remembering at the start with a minutes silence.”

“Everyone is welcome, bring a picnic and a drink and make Ash proud of what we as a team and a club have achieved through the hard work of Ash over the past 30 years.”

“Everything will be starting around 1PM with the minutes silence will be held at 1.30PM. A shirt will be laid at side of pitch with is name on that we  hope to present to his family.”

Ashley recently set out on a mission to raise money for the club so they could take cricket into the community.

His fund raising page is still active and you learn more about his plans and can make a contribution by clicking here.
