Beverley Building Society’s Charity of the Month initiative has been popular amongst its members, and allows them to vote for a charity each month to receive a £250 donation from the Society.

For November, Yorkshire Cancer Research are the recipients of the monthly donation.

from Yorkshire Cancer Research said:

“Yorkshire Cancer Research is the only charity that is dedicated to tackling Yorkshire’s cancer problems and priorities, and we are committed to working in partnership with researchers, the NHS and other charities to ensure that people diagnosed with cancer have access to the very best treatment and care”.

“We are investing £6.5m in projects that will increase the early diagnosis of cancer in Yorkshire. In the last 12 months, we’ve invested your donations in £10m of research projects that will bring a direct benefit to cancer patients in Yorkshire”

“Our dream is that by 2025 at least 2000 fewer people in Yorkshire will die from cancer every year”

565 people are diagnosed with cancer every week in Yorkshire, and people in Yorkshire are more likely to get cancer, and more likely to die from it, than most other counties in England.

There are many reasons for this, including social deprivation, post-industrialisation and lifestyle choices.

But there are also clear disparities in the availability of healthcare services and inequalities accessing early diagnostics, clinical trials and the latest .
