Downright Special is a charity which supports children with Down syndrome in Hull and the East Riding of Yorkshire. The members of the Society voted for Downright Special to receive the £250 donation, which will go towards getting the appropriate resources in order to support parents and teachers.

Marketing Manager Zoe Fisher said:

“This is a great local charity that is passionate about helping people in Hull and East Yorkshire who care for children with Down Syndrome”.

She also added;

“It’s nice that our members get to vote for our Charity of the Month, it means that they are involved in how we help the charities in the local community”.

Donations to the charity go towards the creation and print of new parent leaflets, training for teacher assistants and parents, and events where local families who have a child with Down Syndrome can get together and receive the support they need. The local charity has helped over 100 families since it was founded in 2007.

Gillian Bowlas, Chair of Downright Special, said;

“We are all delighted to have received a donation of £250 from Beverley Building Society. The donation will be used to fund an update to our leaflet for new parents.”

“This leaflet is vital in helping new parents understand more about the condition, dispel any myths and raise awareness that children with Down syndrome and their families do lead happy, fulfilled lives just the same as any other.”

“The money will also contribute to the running of our Friday morning play and sessions for children from birth to five years old.”
