BEVERLEY FOOD FESTIVAL : Young Chefs’ Battle Of The Saucepans

One of the main attractions at this weekend’s will be the live cook-off to determine Hull and East Yorkshire’s Apprentice Chef of the Year.

Now in its tenth year, the Copper Saucepan competition is organised by the Hull and East Yorkshire Hospitality Association (HEYHA) as a showcase for the region’s talented young chefs.

The final will see Victoria Martin, of the , Hull Marina, and Connor Berney, of the Ashbourne Hotel in North Lincolnshire, go head to head in a battle of the saucepans.

They will have just 30 minutes to prepare and cook a main course and dessert using local ingredients in front of an audience of around 300 in the festival food theatre in .

Earlier this year Victoria and Connor were judged the winners at the semi-final cook-off at Hull College when ten young chefs were challenged to produced a three-course meal.

This year’s Beverley Food Festival is held on Sunday, October 2, in Saturday Market, Beverley, from 9.30am to 4pm. It will feature more than 100 stalls selling the finest quality of locally produced food and drink and a whole host of entertainment, including Britain’s Got Talent Semi Finalists The Garnett Sisters.

There will also be cookery demonstrations by seven of the area’s top chefs.

The final of the Copper Saucepan competition takes place at 1.30pm. This year’s winner will receive the Copper Saucepan Trophy, £300 in cash and the opportunity to have a day in the kitchens at the award-winning Winteringham Fields Restaurant.

The runner up will receive £100 as well as a day at Winteringham Fields.

The competition showcases the improving standards and use of local food in Hull and East Yorkshire and is a way of developing, promoting and celebrating the skills of our young people in the hospitality industry.”
