Beverley RUFC travel the short journey up the M62 to play their National Three North fixture against Cleckheaton.
Their opposition has cemented their place in this league after a brief spell in North East Two and returning as champions in the 2013/2014 season. Cleckheaton sit comfortably in 5th place with 12 wins compared to Beverley’s return of two wins and a 14th place in the league.
Director of Rugby, Junior Tupai commented;
“Cleckheaton are a very good side. They will be difficult to beat at home. I’ve not won there in the previous 8 or 9 seasons I’ve been at Beverley. Even when we won the North East 2 league a few years ago we lost to them at their place, so they are a bogie team for us.”
Cleckheaton have had some close results recently and have not had a win since late January. When the sides last met back in November Beverley were denied victory at the death.
Tupai continued;
“We’ve been improving against the better teams but struggling against the so-called lesser teams. We got ourselves over the try line a few times against Rossendale last week but then conceded so easily, which has been a work-on for us all season.”
“We picked up some injuries last week so hopefully on Thursday, they can be cleared to play, and we can make a good go of things on Saturday.”
Beverley will select from: A Ogilvie, A McPeake, K Renwick, R Powell, M Adams, D Brant, L Starbuck, J McKay, J Fell, C Hancock, S Nel, I Archibald, J Tupai, J Marin, S Atiola, M Kilgannon, P Wood, R Davidson, A Spence
