Beverley Dental Practice Is Short-listed For Top Award

Hot on the heels of their recent success in being awarded the Mouth Cancer Screening Accreditation Scheme by the Mouth Cancer Foundation charity, Perfect 32 Dental Practice, an NHS and private dental practice in Beverley, has been short-listed for a prestigious award at The Dental Awards.

The Dental Awards, which is taking place during The Dentistry Show on Friday 17th April 2015, will be a sparkling gala dinner held at the NEC Hilton Metropole Hotel.

The awards recognise the very best in UK dentistry and rewards individuals, teams and practices that have showed an active interest in reaching and staying at the top of their profession.

Perfect 32 in Ladygate has been chosen as finalists in the Best National Smile Month Award category. To show their support for National Smile Month in 2014, the team held a ‘4 Miles for Smiles’ event at Total Fitness, Willerby.

Every team member chose to either swim, walk, run or cycle 4 miles for charity. The event was supported by Olympic Medalist swimmer, Joanne Jackson, The , players from Hull KR and , Roger Millward MBE and Stanley Gene.

The idea of the event was two-fold. Firstly, to raise awareness of oral health issues in the Yorkshire and Humber region and educate the public about good oral health and the link to overall systemic health. Secondly, to raise awareness of the escalating problem of oral cancer across the UK and educate the public about risk factors and self-screening.

Research has shown that poor diet and not being active are 2 key factors that can increase a person’s cancer risk. Joanne runs her own swimming academy and was central to delivering this message as well as the direct link between a healthy diet and good oral health. Joanne got in the swimming pool with two of the team and supported them through their gruelling 4 mile swim.

Perfect raised £800 for mouth cancer charities and the event’s message reached tens of thousands of people through coverage on Radio Humberside and Viking FM, publications in local newspapers and a video on You Tube.

Spokeswoman for The Dentistry Awards, Anna Lambert, said:

“This has been an outstanding year for entries and as such the competition has been extremely close so to have got this far is a real achievement in itself!”
