Beverley Races Ladies Day – Reminder For Race-Goers To ‘Think B 4 U Drink’

Beverley Races Ladies Day - Reminder For Race-Goers To 'Think B 4 U Drink'

Beverley Races Ladies Day is just around the corner, and this event marks a time for stunning dresses, smart suits and of-course a drink or two.

Inspector David Braysmith of the East Riding Licensing Team says:

“Ladies Day at Beverley racecourse is always a very busy event, and we want to ensure everyone has an enjoyable day and evening.”

“In preparation for the event, are working closely with the licensees in the town. Each pub has been issued with bar-runners and beer mats, reminding people to think before they drink.”

“The door staff are well trained to deal with any situation and bar staff are reminded that it is their responsibility not to serve someone who is clearly drunk.”

“Hundreds of mint cards will be given out to people in the bars before the races, with the message about the power of the police to issue a dispersal order to anyone who they consider to be on the verge of committing an offence; these orders provide an immediate ban from the area for between 24 and 48 hours.

“Officers will be on duty in a highly visible capacity at the racecourse and in the town to help reassure race-goers that if they need our help, they can approach any one of us at any time.”

Inspector Rob Cocker of Beverley Neighbourhood Policing Team,

“We are expecting significant traffic congestion around the racecourse due to the large number of visitors.”

“Every year, we receive complaints about motorists driving across the Pasture to get ahead of traffic. This is anti-social to other users of the Westwood and can cause damage to your car from unseen hazards. It is also and offence, which will be dealt with by officers. Please be patient and you will get home safely.”

Humberside Police want everyone to enjoy this event but please consider our advice to race-goers to ensure they remain safe and well throughout the day.

Before you start drinking, set yourself a limit and try to stick to it.

  • Try to make every-other drink a soft drink. It’s a long day – don’t peak too early!
  • Re-hydrate with plenty of water
  • Don’t Drink and Drive – Leave your car at home
  • Stay safe and don’t let yourself become vulnerable because you’ve had too much to drink.
  • Stick together – don’t leave your friends.
  • Make sure you get home safely – pre-book a licensed taxi.
