Mill Lane Wizards Win At Driffield

u12 boys travelled the short distance to on Sunday to play in the Driffield Junior Football tournament at the local senior school.

In their opening encounter with a strong Driffield Pumas team, Mill Lane made their early pressure tell as Lloyd Bean finished off a great team move and the game finished 1:0.

Courts FC were their next opponents and again the Wizards made all the running, spurning numerous chances, before a cross field move put Matty Blake clean through and his low shot into the bottom corner gave the keeper no chance.

With 2 wins in the bag Mill Lane knew another victory against Bridlington would put them into the semi-finals. The Wizards dominated possession from the outset and after some great play involving Zac Wise, Harry Sadler and George Addison the ball was squared to Cody McLaren who rifled his shot into the bottom corner to make it 3 wins out of 3.

Their final league encounter against ended in a 0:0 draw which meant the Wizards topped their group.

In their semi-final against Costello the Wizards took an early lead through Jamie Pettigrew after some great work by Danny Wilson on the right hand side. More chances came and went before a last minute free kick to Costello put the tie into penalties. After Wilson, Bean, Sadler and Wise had all converted 2 great saves from Isaac Adnitt put the Wizards in the final.

Against a physical and strong Burlington Jackdaws team Adam Prince in defence remained rock solid at the back and restricted the Jackdaws to only half chances. At the other end the Wizards played some great football and it was no surprise when McLaren smashed the ball home to give Mill Lane the early advantage.

Both the Jackdaws keeper and the woodwork kept the score at 1:0 as the Wizards pressed for the decisive second goal, but finally Pettigrew made the pressure tell with a neat finish to win the tournament for the Wizards!
