Two Late Goals Ensure Town Progress In National Cup

Town Football Club have progressed to the next round of the National Cup after they beat Westmoreland at the .

Town who qualified for the prestigious competition after winning the were lucky to get in level at half time according to gaffer Dave Ricardo.

Two goals in the last five minutes, a header from super sub Matthew Dixon and a penalty from Michael O’connell proved enough to edge the game.

Speaking after the match to HU17.net Ricardo said;

“I am very pleased with the result today, Westmoreland were a well drilled and very quick side, a top quality team.”

“The first half they were on top but they never took their chances, I have to say we were lucky to go in level at the break.”

“I felt we were the stronger of the two sides in the second half and we got our reward late on with two late goals.”

“Every single player did well today, this was a massive team effort and it is hard for me to single any players out.”

Asa Pardoe was just one of many stand out performers, when asked for a man of the match Ricardo said the whole squad deserved it for their collective performance.

Town will now travel to Rothwell in West Yorkshire to take on the West Riding, a match Ricardo clearly looking forward to.

Before then they need to get to the league as Beverley Town look to retain their Humber Premier League title.

The champions travel to the East Coast to take on and will need all three points if they are to keep the pressure on current league leaders Reckitts AFC.

Beverley Town are five points behind the leaders though do have two games in hand something Ricardo is quick to point out.
