MPs To Meet With Caravan Manufacturers To Celebrate Tax Victory

Graham Stuart, the MP for and Holderness, has organised a meeting with caravan manufacturers and local MPs who worked to convince the Government to change course on the caravan tax.

The meeting will take place at 3:00pm on May 30 at Beverley caravan manufacturer ABI following an announcement last night that static holiday caravans will be taxed at 5%, not 20%, after a successful cross-party campaign.

Graham said,

“It’s an opportunity for MPs and local manufacturers to come together and celebrate our successful campaign to stop full VAT being imposed on static caravans. Tens of thousands of people are employed in the industry from suppliers to manufacturers to parks and we are delighted that we have secured a 75% reduction in the tax and a delay until April next year in its imposition.

“It shows that Parliament can act to change the mind of Government if everyone works together to a common aim and Ministers are prepared to listen.”

The cross party campaign against the caravan tax began when Graham organised a meeting between MPs and caravan manufacturers in Beverley immediately after the Budget.

He then lead a delegation to the Treasury, tabled an amendment to the Bill, secured an additional debate in the House of Commons, tabled a motion opposing the tax, organised a joint presentation of thousands of petitions to Parliament, and directly lobbied the Prime Minister, the Chancellor and most of the Cabinet to bring about the change.
