A 72-year-old shopper in Asda, Beverley, was targeted by thieves who made off with £250 in cash.

The lady continued to do her shopping but when she reached the checkout she realised her purse had been taken from her bag and she approached the store manager to report the incident.

Her bag was in her trolley and inside this had been the purse that had her pension money, drivers licence and other personal documents inside.

The store were unable to offer any help regarding the incident and the lady was advised that the did not cover the part of the Asda store where the suspected theft took place.

To add to the frustration, they later found out the cameras on Norwood were also out of action.

The lady’s daughter told .net:

“I want to make other aware of this.”

“Lucky for us mum was not hurt. She was shaken up but is a strong lady and is coping with the robbery very well.”

“The were very helpful but it is hard to believe so much money has been spent on CCTV and nothing is working.”

“What is the point of having it?”

An Asda spokesperson said:

“We take security very seriously in our stores and are working with the police on this case.”

“We advise everyone to be vigilant and take a common sense approach when they are shopping. Keep an eye on your handbag at all times and never leave purses or bag loose in the trolley.”
