Tickton’s Season Ends With A Blank

under 16 girls last game of their East Riding Girls Football League season took place at a windy Longcroft pitch and the blustery conditions seemed to hamper both teams initially.

After a scrappy first few minutes the Victoria Dock forwards began pressing and it was only some inspired keeping by AFC Tickton’s Loralie Castle that prevented them from making an early breakthrough.

The AFC Tickton defence then managed to subdue the threatening Victoria Dock forwards and AFC Tickton’s own forward line of Shannon Hubbard, Lauren Stubbs and Lily Brunton made some opportunities at the other end. With the first half approaching its midpoint a well placed through ball from the Victoria Dock midfield allowed Courtney Gleeson to score for the visitors.

AFC Tickton suffered a far greater blow when Lottie Tuisawau had to leave the field due to injury, and as there were no substitutes available for the home side this proved to be a turning point.

The second half started well for the visitors, and it wasn’t a surprise when they scored a second within the first few minutes of the restart. The AFC Tickton players kept pressing forward with the midfield of Lucie Hall, Zoe Meakin and Emma Genter trying to influence the game but this allowed space in front of the defence giving the Victoria Dock players a chance to rush at Rachael Hill, Cadie Yeats and Kayleigh Duell.

Victoria Dock managed to score another brace in quick succession leaving AFC Tickton trailing by 4 goals midway through the half, and they effectively wrapped up the game when Emma Wilkinson collected the ball in her own half and ran through to coolly slot past Loralie Castle.

Shannon Hubbard kept running at the Victoria Dock defence, but despite her man of the match efforts, the visitors kept a clean sheet and took the three points.

Final Score: AFC Tickton 0- 5 Victoria Dock
