The Under eights were involved in an end to end match with both teams showing excellent defence and attack Beverley Braves came out on top to win by 6 tries to 4.
The match started well with both defences on top and some excellent tackling by all of the Beverley Braves. Beverley continued to pressure Skirlaugh and eventually broke through with tries for James Marr and Samuel Shrimpton.
Skirlaugh hit back with a couple of tries before the break but these were matched by a second for Samuel Shrimpton and a first try for Antonio Seminara.
The second half was equally as entertaining with both teams playing exciting rugby. Skirlaugh scored twice more but with tries from
William Wilson and a second from James Marr Beverley held on to win. This was an excellent team effort from Beverley with everyone contributing to the win.
We saw some outstanding runs and defence from Jacob Parkinson, Louix Gorman, George Youngs, William Parkinson, Michael McManus, Mackenzie Beckett, Oliver Egan, Joel Newton and
Roberto Seminara to add to the efforts of the try scorers.
It was extremely difficult to single out any individual players in such a good team performance but it was felt that the top tacklers this week were Matty Cook and Antonio Seminara for some crunching tackles and the man of the match awards went to Jarad Goforth and William Wilson for their overall contributions.
Else where the Under Tens played their part in an entertaining game between two well matched sides, the best result was a draw, but the 38-all score line is only part of the story.
The Braves took the lead early with the first of two tries from Ethan Rowbotham diving over from acting half back, the conversion from Henry Hughes giving an early 6nil lead. Myton then came back with some great play scoring three tries and converting two to give them a 6-16 lead.
With Oliver Loney driving the ball up field aggressively and Hughes causing all sorts of problems with his strong runs which would earn him the man of the match, the Braves got themselves in the game when Marcus Walker passed inside to the supporting William Wallis to pick up the first of his two tries. Ryan Deane once again looked dangerous with the ball in his hands and put in some important tackles.
10-16 at half-time and the Braves were still in the game with Lewis Egan strong in defence and shifting the ball wide and Dylan English and Harry Newton distributing the ball well from acting half back, the young Beverley side were always going to score more points. However the second half started well for the visitors with a try almost straight from the kick off opening the gap back to ten points again.
Thomas Cohen and Oliver Gresswell marshalled the right wing well defensively and with the fresh legs of Matthew Hutchinson helping to drive the ball up field, the position was set for Hughes to crash over, Tom Marr adding the extras. Rowbotham was in the right place at the right time to get his second, Wallis converting but Myton hit back to score again.
Then came the Braves ‘scoot try’. Three runs from dummy half got the ball well into the Myton half with George Lees squeezing over, again from acting half-back to score the try.
Both sides traded scores with the Walker-Wallis combination coming up trumps again for Wallis to take his place at the top of the Braves try scoring chart for the season so far. Walker converted this time.
Things were getting tense and Lees raced over for his second to a big cheer from the home supporters but it still needed William Kirkup to hold his nerve and convert to get the scores level. Both teams had chances in the final seconds but a draw was a fair result for the efforts of both sides.
