United Win Tesco Cup In Style

Cup Kisser: Tony Storr wins his first trophy as manager

Mill Lane United have lifted their first piece of silverware with a comprehensive 7 – 0 win over Hessle Town girls in the Tesco Cup.

Played under flood lights at the East Riding County FA’s Roy West Centre United were simply too good for their opponents blowing them away with seven goals.

On target for United were Keeley Forward, Tonya Storr, and Millie O’Neil in as Mill Lane shone under the lights.

United boss Tony Storr was delighted with his team and winning the cup lifting the trophy into the air before giving it a big kiss.

The cup was presented to the team by Gemma Thomas, the Women and Girls Development Officer for the East Riding County FA.

Speaking after the game Tony told HU17.net;

“I am totally overwhelmed with the girls and their performance on the night.”

“Every single one of them gave me 110% on the night, it was my first cup final as a manager and it was great to win.”

“Hessle showed great spirit and competed for the entire game, they will certainly be looking to get their revenge when we meet in the Plate Cup.”

Since 2005 more than 20,000 teams and 300,000 players have taken part in the Tesco U13, U14 and U16 Cups. During that time Tesco has made grants of £834,000 to help support grass roots development through county, area and national associations in the four home nations.

Gemma said;

“These finals are a great opportunity for players to play in a cup final at a high standard, the matches are played under lights to add to the occasion.”

“We always looking for new women and girls who are interested in playing football, anyone interested in playing can contact their local club or get in touch with me through the East Riding County FA.”

Ironically the sides will meet again in two weeks at Broadgates this time in the League Plate Cup and will be looking to reach their second final.

United who are flying high in the league have a real chance this season to clinch a treble though boss Tony Storr is not taking anything for granted, he said;

“Hessle Town will want to get revenge for the final and when we meet them again we will need to be at our best to progress.”
