Pride And Passion Not Enough As Isberg Beat Beverley

’s season continues along the same theme. Pride and passion aplenty but littered with mistakes that are so often ruthlessly punished by the opposition.

They added two new faces to the side with Alex Ellis who had a previous spell with the club ten years ago putting on the number 9 shirt and a little known Fijian Mike Furneaux slotted into the centre. Once again injuries and work commitments forced to reshuffle the side and he drafted in assistant coach Adam Wallis into the standoff position and Adam Norton was asked to fill in at prop.

The home side showed far more enterprise than previous weeks and the ball was moved around far more which in turn contributed to more mistakes. The visitors soaked up much of what Beverley had to offer and racked up 18 unanswered first half points. Beverley did get over their opponents line once but lost the ball in the act of scoring which once again demonstrated their luckless campaign.

The early moments of the second half saw early pressure from the hosts with the strong running Ian Lane and Nathan Wilkinson looking the most dangerous together with the ever probing Steve Connolly. However the final execution was again a problem as Nathan Wilkinson got over the line but was unable to ground the ball with a crowd of defenders around him.

In a game that had been played in a good spirit became a bit ugly midway through the second half. A brawl broke out which involved almost all 26 players. The vastly experienced referee however dealt with the incident by sending off a player from each side and giving both captains a stern talking to. This calmed down the proceedings considerably.

Beverley then managed to finally get on the score sheet courtesy of a Steve Connolly try goaled by Ryan Watkin. The visitors added a further ten points for a comfortable win.

Man of the match was the strong running and tough tackling Ian Lane with Adam Norton also closely in the running.

This Saturday sees Beverley travel to league leaders for their toughest test so far.

Final Score: Beverley ARLC 6 Hull Isberg 28 | Reported by Nick Robinson
