Windeler Winner Keeps Molescroft Promotion Hopes Alive

Molescroft Rangers scored with virtually the last touch of the game to cap a remarkable comeback which underlines their intention of being considered serious promotion contenders.

With Tony “T Bone” Walker out with a reoccurrence of his hamstring injury Manager Healey shuffled the pack playing five in midfield with top scorer and star of my big fat gypsy wedding Darren Spruce as a lone front man.

The change in formation didn’t seem to suit Moley and a horror show in the first half saw them come in two goals down and face a verbal barrage from the management team of Healey and Bolger who were less than impressed with the level of work rate.

Ringing the changes Moley switched to 4-4-2 with Sam Dixon partnering Spruce up front and the change saw an immediate difference to play as the away side applied constant pressure throughout the half.  An early goal was imperative to the comeback and they got it courtesy of who else but the peg seller Spruce who scored from close range for his 34th of the season.

Bolger came on for Milner and almost netted with his first touch of the game and Healey replaced Pardoe with the score still 2-1 with twenty minutes to play.  Moley levelled the game with fifteen minutes to go with a flowing move, Dixon volleying a cross into the box for Spruce to bring down, swivel and score his second of the game clutching his lucky heather as he wheeled away celebrating with his teammates.

After being 2-0 down Moley would have probably have taken a draw but better was to come, a late corner saw Windeler trot up front and a deep corner was met by him to plant a header goal wards which crossed the line before being cleared with the ref signalling the goal to complete a remarkable comeback.

Moley also had a second cause for celebration as after the game Rich Dixon broke the Hornsea Changing Room “in showers” record for highest wee.

Molescroft now have a busy period ahead of them with a HE Dean cup tie against Skidby on Tuesday, a Junior Country Cup semi final against Brid Sports Club Old Boys on Thursday and a crunch league game on Saturday against Wawne Ferry Reserves.
