Tanners Put Six Past Inter at Longcroft

Hodgsons FC gained another valuable three points in their push for the Humber Premier League Division One league title as they turned over Inter Charter 6-3.

The Tanners overcame a determined Inter side that never stopped working from start to finish, but they did give the ball away on numerous occasions to emphasise their lowly position in the table.

The home side had to wait until the 13th minute to open the scoring, but it was worth it. An inch-perfect Adam Foster pass sent Steve Grantham through on goal and he finished smartly with his right foot.

A further two goals followed from Danny Cartwright on 24 mins and 34 mins to put Hodgsons in a strong position.

The second-half saw centre-half Ben Daniels grab himself a brace with almost identical headers on 53mins and 63 mins. He had his skipper Paul Silvester to thank, as it was Silvester’s huge throw-ins that gave Daniels the opportunity to head home.

Many chances came and went for both sides in the second half, and Inter managed to score three goals to their credit.

It was substitute Danny Atkinson on 80 mins who had the final say, though, tapping home from close range after Cartwright’s free-kick was parried out to the diminutive forward.

Manager Lee Hastings said after the match:

“There is no doubt the performance will have to be stepped up somewhat for the home clash with North Cave next Saturday.

“The movement and passing will have to be sharp, and we will have to be clinical in front of goal.”

The equation is simple really. Hodgsons must win their remaining two matches to be crowned champions, starting with North Cave this Saturday followed by an away trip to Long Riston on Tuesday 19 April.

Hodgsons have also secured a season-long deal with ‘Khans of Beverley’ for 2011/2012. The Balti specialists are understood to be delighted at working with one of Beverley’s most successful football teams.
