SPORTS ACADEMY TRIUMPH

Mr King and Mrs Fitzpatrick took the Y7 and Y8 pupils from the academy and academy potential list plus one or two students who performed well in the recent sprints and jumps competition to take part in the Bridlington School Sports Partnership Sportshall Athletics competition at High. They totally dominated the event and came away with medals, trophies and a place in the Humber Final.

The Humber final took place at Ennerdale and each boys and girls team competed separately. Pupils had worked hard to gain their place in the team and all performed very well. We were delighted to return to Longcroft with all 4 magnificent trophies and a place in the Yorkshire final which is held at the Sheffield Institute of Sport at the end of March. Many congratulations to all involved.

Almost all East Riding Secondary schools sent teams to Longcroft in Thursday 20th January for the East Riding Cross Country Championship that had been postponed due to the snow before Christmas. The course was prepared to look like an international competition and a team of Longcroft Leaders supported by marshalling and manning the finish. Les and Bill Eldridge worked tirelessly to make the morning such a success. Longcroft had some splendid results and many went on to the Humberside Championships.

LACROSSE
We are lucky to have from Hull Lacrosse club running 2 lunchtime sessions this term for Y7/8/9 girls. It is proving a popular activity for Y7 and we are pleased to have been given funding through the Sport Unlimited project to purchase a 30 stick set of equipment for school use. Gareth also runs a club at Beverley High so we plan to challenge them to a game.

KURLING

A small group of Y7/8 pupils spend time in the gym at Lower School one lunchtime a week competing in Kurling and Boccia. They have really taken to this challenge of accuracy. Mrs Fitzpatrick takes the Kurling to every Thursday and the Y5/6 girls are enjoying this new game. It is hoped that the 2 groups might meet up for a competition soon.

WITH MR TROTTER
This term Mr Trotter has been in Swinemoor on a Friday afternoon teaching Y6 football and he will be at Leconfield with Y3/4 and Cherry Burton with Y2 after half term. He will have delivered sessions in all our primaries before Easter and schools will be encouraged to book him again for the summer term

From Anne Fitzpatrick who is the Longcroft School Sports Co-ordinator working to develop PE and School Sport in our school community. We are all part of the Bridlington School Sports Partnership.
