Beverley Throw Away Half Time Lead

The Blue and Golds threw away a winning position yet again at the Leisure Centre last Saturday.

They led 12-0 after only 20 minutes but slipped to their most disappointing defeat of the season against a side that was there for the taking. The hosts scored with almost their first attack with Liam Lane going over after only three minutes for a try converted by Steve Jonson.

They then immediately put themselves under pressure by fumbling the restart kick and had to withstand ten minutes of pressure inside their own half. They did well to keep the visitors out. Having withstood the onslaught, Aaron Horsfield’s incisive break sent the supporting over for a try which was again converted by Jonson.

The home side were now in the ascendancy and a break by Sam Coleman saw him draw the full back perfectly to send Steve Jonson in the clear only to be pulled back for a forward pass. A further try was disallowed for a forward pass and from a position where they could have been 24-0 up things then went sadly wrong. The visitors then hit back with a converted try just before the interval to reduce the arrears to 12-6.

The second half saw the North Hull outfit dominate possession and territory allowing very few attacking opportunities. They added 16 unanswered second half points to claim both league points. The hosts showed their frustration conceding a stream of second half penalties many of them for petty offences. Aaron Horsfied gave his usual wholehearted performance but the Man of the Match award went to wingman Rob Thompson who was forever solid in defence and unlucky not to have scored on a couple of occasions.

There are no Hull & District League fixtures this Saturday due to the Millennium Weekend at Cardiff.
