Beverley Town Mohicans make it through to the final of the plate competition for the third year running!!!!
Beverley started the better team with Oliver Morrison going through on goal but failing to beat what was to be a great goal-keeper on the day.
Good work from Sam Tuft and Will Collingwood put pressure on Victoria Dock’s defence and when Oliver Morrison was given a long ball to chase into the box he was brought down for a penalty which Callum Ward duly rifled into the top corner with no mercy.
Victoria Dock made it a difficult game and Beverley found it hard to break down their opponents. They were caught offside a number of times in the first half after some great balls were played through from Naldrett, Heath and Ward. Beverley’s defence had to work hard, but Louie Kelly and Greg Whyley were both superb on the day, putting in some fantastic challenges and protecting goal-keeper Charlie Brookes. Stanforth and Woods were also battling hard in defence and playing some great balls for the midfield to collect, but the first half finished 1-0.
Manager Dave Collingwood impressed on the team the need to get the ball out wide in the second half, and the lads duly obliged. Slick play down the right saw a great flick-on header from Collingwood finished by Ward. Collingwood then provided another, side footing a ball down the line for hat-trick hero Ward to finish yet again.
There were more chances in the second half as the game opened. Dan Naldrett produced some excellent runs, along with Jamie Spence and Sam Tuft who was at his best. Victoria Dock’s keeper had a fabulous game, after saving a rasping shot from Spence he followed with a save from Collingwood. New comer Brad Nolan also impressed with some strong challenges and good ball play on the left. A fourth goal was scored after the keeper saved a great penalty, but Heath followed up and finished with ease.
For an outstanding performance at the back Louie Kelly well and truly earned the Player of the Match award.
