Hodgsons FC Vs Scarborough Athletic Reserves

Scarborough Athletic’s Reserve team made the trip to Beverley to face unbeaten side Hodgsons at Longcroft School on the 3G pitch. Just 2 weeks ago Hodgsons took maximum points in the reverse of this fixture with a 3-1 win in Filey. This game proved to be a fight to the very end for the home team, who eventually came out 5-4 winners.

Hodgsons were without leading marksman , and therefore a start was given to Joe Dexter who partnered up front.

The home team made a sluggish start to this match conceding after just 5 minutes. It wasn’t until the 28th minute through a header that Hodgsons drew level, and 5 minutes before half time winger Danny Atkinson headed home from outside the box courtesy of a pass. In added time before the break Joe Dexter also headed home from a Shaun Gibson corner to take Hodgsons into the  half time break leading by 3 goals to 1.

The second half couldn’t have started much better for Hodgsons who extended their lead just 3 minutes after the re-start. Forward Richard Durham scoring his 2nd goal in as many matches, although the Scarborough keeper should really have done better.

At 4-1 up the home side should really have pushed on and comfortably put the game to bed. However, ‘Borough’ had different ideas. They continued pushing forward and deservedly scored goals on 58 mins and 67 mins to make the scoreline 4-3. The next goal was crucial and fortunately it was Hodgsons who scored it through centre half Karl Wallis.

On 83 mins Jonathan Thorne flicked a header over his own keeper to give Scarborough a 4th goal. The remaining 5 minutes saw dogged defending from Hodgsons which in the end resulted in another 3 points.

Hodgsons manager Lee Hastings said afterwards. “I’m delighted with the win, but not the manner in which it was achieved. We’ve now conceded 8 goals in 2 matches, but yet we’ve won them both, quiet remarkable really. I haven’t seen the best from my team and yet we’ve took 9 points from a possible 9, that can only be a good thing.”

September 11th travel to Springfield Lane, Willerby to face FC. Meanwhile Hodgsons Reserve’s start their season in County League Division 2 with an away trip to Long Riston to face their reserve outfit.
