Easy Win For Beverley 2nds Against Driffield

Beverley RUFC Vs Driffiled 3rds

2nds produced arguably their best performance of the season against a spirited Driffield side and in the process scored 55 points for the second week running.

Looking at the score line you could have been forgiven for thinking the conditions were suited to fast open running , however the game was very nearly a victim of the weather as constant rain had left the pitch with areas of standing water and heavy underfoot.

Undeterred by the conditions Beverley RUFC started like they had finished the previous weeks match and moved the ball around at every opportunity playing fast and wide, causing Driffield problems from the off.

After only two minutes, Beverley RUFC registered their first try of the afternoon.  From a lineout on the half way line quick ball was moved wide and Alex Nightingale hit the line at pace before sending Josh Roe over in the left hand corner for an excellent try which fly half Ben Sherwood converted from wide out.

Beverley RUFC, with the forwards playing as a unit, and providing quick ball to the backs were in total control of the game and creating openings almost at will. 20 minutes in and Beverley RUFC had scored two further tries through rampant number 8 Dave Brant and Centre Danny Docherty, one converted by Sherwood to take a 19 nil lead.

However as is Beverley RUFC’s want they relaxed and began to make a number of errors that allowed Driffield into the game. From a seemingly harmless position outside Beverley RUFC 22 Driffield cut through the Beaver defence and crossed for a converted try. Despite regaining the initiative Beverley RUFC couldn’t penetrate the Driffield defence again and at halftime had a 19-7 lead.

Playing with a slight breeze behind them Beverley RUFC again wasted no time in taking the game to the visitors.  With the back three of Roe, Nightingale and John Newton willing to run the ball back at every opportunity it was that man Roe who picked up a loose ball in his own half and outpaced the cover for his second try of the afternoon.

From the Driffield restart Dave Brant took the ball straight back at them, with great support from Robert Todd, Matt Brown and Eddie Russell, who was simply outstanding all afternoon, Driffield were unable to cope with the power of the Beverley RUFC pack and with ball aplenty the returning jinked his way over to extend Beverley RUFC’s lead. With the bench of Andy Meagher, , Luke Pardon, Stu Charlton and introduced Beverley RUFC were now rampant.

More good forward play took Beverley RUFC to the Driffield line and quick hands saw Nightingale, who had a try disallowed for a forward pass, over in the corner soon followed by further tries try for Sherwood and another for Dale.

Another Driffield restart fell to Beverley RUFC’s Russell,  who went on a rampaging run into the opposition 22, a series of quick drives resulted in Todd picking up and flopping over from 2 yards for the last score of the afternoon.

For the second week running Beverley RUFC scored nine tries with five conversions and given the conditions this was an outstanding team effort from the Beverley RUFC side who are playing with plenty of confidence at the moment.   Man of the Match was Eddie Russell.

FT 55-7
