Hodgsons FC Vs Beverley Town Reserves

took maximum points in this local ‘derby’ clash against Beverley Town Reserves, winning 3-1.  This was a must win game for the tanners, after a poor start to the New Year. The pitch wasn’t in great condition but both teams adapted reasonably well considering.

It took 20 minutes before the deadlock was broken. Hodgsons took the lead through centre back Karl Wallis who’s header looped over the Beverley Town keeper. has to be given credit here, after all, it was his superb left foot in-swinging cross that supplied Wallis.

Town had a chance 10 minutes later to equalise from the penalty spot following Matt Dexters clumsy challenge on forward Chris Whitehead. Dexter picked himself up, received a yellow card and faced up to Mike Evins of Town. Dexter redeemed himself with a dive to his left and saved Evins penalty.

That wasn’t the end of the penalty drama. After approx 10 minutes of further play, Beverley Town were awarded a 2nd penalty following a dubious handball decision. A new taker, and a different result this time, as the penalty was driven past Dexters right hand side for 1-1.

Hodgsons stepped up a gear and pushed on to try and regain the lead. They did so shortly after through leading scorer Adam Foster. The former Town player finished coolly, chipping the advancing keeper for his 15th of the season.

As the half was coming to an end, Hodgsons lost midfielder Chris Heath with a knee injury so he was replaced with .

The second half didn’t see many clear cut chances for either team. Hodgsons Danny Cartwright got more involved during the second half, and caused problems running with the ball, keeping the Town defence on the back foot.

Midfield duo and John Helyard continued to dig deep in the centre of the park preventing any attacks on goal. Whilst and Karl Wallis hardly put a foot wrong at the back.

A third killer goal came with 20 minutes remaining. The head of Scott-John Tyler putting Town out of this match.

This win puts Hodgsons above Beverley Town Reserves and keeps Hodgsons amongst the leaders.

Man of the Match for Hodgsons – Captain Paul Silvester. Although it must be noted that right full back Daniel Piwinski played through the match with a sore back and didn’t put a foot wrong.
