The Royal Standard – Under New Management

Anyone who uses , Within, could be confused into thinking that it’s management is controlled by someone playing musical chairs. It is not long since landlady Carol went the way of all landladies to be succeeded by Keith and Sue. Now we wave farewell to Keith and Sue and welcome, entrepreneur of this parish, Nick Bean.

Nick is a well-known and popular customer of The Standard and thus, no stranger to the collection of, somewhat, offbeat customers that amass in the front bar. To aid and assist him Nick has been fortunate to secure the offices of Mary Coates, who is adapt not only at running the bar but also at dealing with the customers, an essential part of managing this pub.

Unlike many establishments the ‘Standard’ does not seem to depend upon the Management, it seems to be customer orientated, the very lively regulars appear to be self-regulated and have not altered over the last few changes of tenure, I do suppose that if someone were to take over who objected to and stopped the way these behave there would be a marked change in clientele but, as long as the ale is kept in good fettle and there is sport on the box everyone seems happy.

I would like to wish Nick a long, happy and profitable reign at The Royal Standard and hope that his many friends and associates crowd the bars for years to come. Pat Nolan, Beverley
