Cartwright a former Wawne Ferry player was keen to get on and when he finally did get onto the pitch he quickly made his mark scoring one of Hodgsons FC four goals. Other goals for Hodgsons FC came from Foster, Silvester and Wallis.

Match Report

A top of the table clash against Wawne Ferry from Bransholme, coupled together with a new signing in Danny Cartwright who transferred from Wawne Ferry during the week was sure to spice up things in this Premier League clash.

The previous encounter at Noddle Hill prduced a 2-2 scoreline, but in that game full back Chris Robinson was sent off, he missed this game through suspension. Ben Wallis was also declared unfit with a hamstring problem. Nevertheless Hodgsons had a strong lineup.

New signing Cartwright was on the bench, after declaring himself 80% fit following a knee injury 5 months ago.

Wawne started the stronger team, looking dangerous on the counter attack. Hodgsons keeper Dexter was able to deny any early chances. On 20 mins the Wawne forward was through on goal but a terrific tackle by centre half Karl Wallis prevented a shot on goal.

At the other end Hodgsons had a shot cleared of the line. And also a penalty claim after Adam Foster fell in the box. The Wawne defense were quick to point out that Fosters diving skills were not appreciated.

The breakthrough came late on in the 1st half, following a Wawne corner, the ball was headed back into the box were a scramble resulted in the ball going into the back of the net.

The second half coundn’t have started any worse for the home side as Wawne scored a second after a swift break. At 2 nil down it looked likely that any comeback would be impossible, however Hodgsons stepped up another gear and suddenly they became the dominant team.

Manager Andrew Blenkinsop made a change bringing defensive midfielder John Helyard off and new signing Danny Cartwright made his debut up front with dropping back into central midfield.

It wasn’t long before Cartwright was involved, a crunching tackle by him, saw him see yellow, although it appeared he got the ball.

The comeback begun with a close range header from captain following a fine cross by Adam Foster, Foster then equlised after a great cross by Steve Grantham.

Hodgsons continued to push forward and won a corner. The result was a 3rd goal to Hodgsons from Karl Wallis. The home supporters were on cloud 9, and to rub salt into the wounds of Wawne their fromer player Cartwright finished neatley with his left foot for a Hodgsons 4th.
