The weekend saw the final major competition on the judo calendar for 2019, the British Championships for -21’s and for seniors.
Representing East Yorkshire Judo Academy was Sean Tooby, Holly Bentham and Tommy Jackson. For Sean and Holly, Saturday wasn’t to be their day with both players fighting well but not able to progress past the first round of 3 fights.
Longcroft Sixth Form pupil, Holly Bentham, has been selected to be part of Team England competing at this year’s Youth Commonwealth Games.
The games are being held in Nassau, The Bahamas, commencing on the 18 July and concluding 5 days later on the 23 July and cover a multitude of sports including athletics, swimming, rugby 7s, tennis, beach volleyball along with Holly’s chosen sport of judo.
The East Yorkshire Judo Academy took four players to this year’s British Championships in Sheffield.
First to compete was Logan Campbell who performed superbly in winning three contests in his first venture into the Cadet category before finally bowing out.

A quintet of East Yorkshire Judo Academy players journeyed south to the Heart of England Judo national ranking Championships, held in the Midlands Area.
Following her recent silver medal at the London Open ranking event, East Yorkshire Judo Academy player, Holly Bentham, made her debut in a senior competition at Goole Leisure Centre last weekend.
St Helens in the North West of England was the venue for the third out of a total of six ranking events of the 2013/14 season, last weekend. The East Yorkshire Judo Academy sent a strong selection of seven players to contest for honours.
A second-ranking competition of the season provided the opportunity for members of the East Yorkshire Judo academy to pit their skills against the country’s best competitors.
A packed to the rafters, 2,000 strong crowd were in attendance at the English Institute of Sport, Sheffield which was the setting for the British Judo Pre Cadet and Cadet National Championship
East Yorkshire Judo Academy continued to make it’s mark in competitions nationwide when three of their players made the journey to Coventry to contest an Under 16 years Open event.
Three of the East Yorkshire Judo Academy’s leading junior fighters, Tanith Spencer (14) Ottavio Razzino (14) and Holly Bentham (12) travelled to Holland to compete in the Venray International Tournament.
The Beverley based, East Yorkshire Judo Academy, have been celebrating further success after two of its members were selected to join the England Squad.
