Artwaves 2020 : Details Released Of Second Wave Of Workshops

ArtWaves 2020 is proud to release the second wave of workshops for the 2020 festival, taking place on the weekend of 30-31 May 2020, with the Fringe event being staged from Monday 25 – Friday, 29 May 2020.

Workshops will span the week fringe of ArtWaves and across the festival weekend, bringing the return of festival favourites and new additions to the Yorkshire coast.

One of the first, and new for 2020, workshops will be delivered by award-winning Pink Lily Photography, where participants can join her on a photography walk into Bridlington whilst looking at simple ways to improve their imagery and boost their confidence in camera skills.

After previously scooping the title of ArtWaves Open Exhibition Winner, artist Diana Boanas is joining the bill of artists to host her own watercolour glass and metal painting workshop on Tuesday, 26 May.

Professional artist Julia Borodina is on hand on Sunday 31 May,  guiding students through an exploratory journey of colour mixing, developing their own personal palette and boosting their acrylic painting skills. Julia is also undertaking the role of Paint Out Ambassador for the highly anticipated return of the Open Air Painting Competition being staged on Saturday, 30 May by Bridlington Harbour, giving artists an opportunity to embrace the elements of the coast and create a masterpiece outdoors.

Another new addition is Anna Whitehouse who will be delivering two sessions on Sketching in Clay on Friday, 29 May. Her first session will be aimed at adults looking to explore ceramics, whilst the second is appealing to the young creatives during their half-term break with a specially tailored young people’s workshop (accompanied by parent or guardian).

Festival Director Lauren Frost has also confirmed that a new attraction is being premiered at the event this year on Sunday, 31 May – urban sketching. She said:  “In a similar premise to our paint out, which is still very much a highlight, attendees are invited to join expert artist John Harrison on a briefing, then hunt for suitable sketching locations.” Lauren explained:  “Urban sketching has risen significantly in popularity over the years and we love working with John. John himself is a member of the movement and goes to at least one sketchcrawl a month, which sees a global community of artists practising drawing on location.”

All workshops are limited capacity and are anticipated to once again sell out; attendees are encouraged to buy tickets early to avoid disappointment.

The bookable workshops form a part of a much larger festival. The annual Open Exhibition is now live and open for entries until 1 May 2020.
