Drivers Welcome News That Marshals Will Be Deployed At Taxi Ranks

Taxi drivers in have welcomed the news that will be using marshals at local taxi ranks.

From this weekend marshals will be in place to ensure the safety of passengers and drivers with one local operator saying it brings ‘order’ during what is a busy period.

Speaking to .net, one local driver, who asked not to be named said;

“For us it is really useful to have marshals at the taxi ranks in Beverley as they bring some order and structure to the queue.”

“The Taxi rank in Saturday Market is by the Green Dragon pub, but as drivers pull up the rank moves backwards as people just want to get in a taxi and get home. This means the rank can end up outside Central 42 which leads to problems.”

“By having marshals people can line up safely and do not need to worry about other people pushing in as they know the next car that comes along is for them. Put simply it takes all the hassle out waiting for a taxi.”

Marshals will be present at and also at the out of town retail park, Flemingate. The incentive has been funded by money specifically allocated for crime prevention/public safety initiatives.

Marshals will also be on lookout for ‘bogus drivers’ offering more assurances to people so they know that the car they are getting in is safe.

The driver added;

“We do not really have a problem in Beverley with ‘bogus drivers’ but we do have people coming into Beverley from Hull touting for business during the festive period.”

“People using these cars to get home should be very careful as they will not be insured should anything go wrong.”

“I would urge anyone to make their way to the taxi rank and use genuine Hackney Carriage licensed vehicle.”

East Riding of Yorkshire Council say that the marshals are welcomed by local business and the drivers adding they want everyone who is enjoying a night out to get home safely.
