Lighting & Living of Beverley, which trades in the Georgian Quarter is not your run of the mill home interiors business.
Run by husband and wife, Dave and Sara Dever, the couple have, where possible put a lot of effort into stocking products made from recycled and up cycled materials.
Speaking to HU17.net Dave said;
“After buying the house we saw this shop was empty and wanted to open a business together. It was while looking for things for our on home we discovered the people who are now our suppliers.”
“We import lighting from Holland. The style of the lights are anything from industrial through to contemporary. They are not the sort of lights you can just buy anywhere, they are works of art that are all very unique.”
“As a result of watching the BBC show The Blue Planet I was struck by how much plastic was in the sea. We managed to find a supplier who make soft furnishings from old plastic bottles and struck up an agreement to stock their goods.”
“All the rugs, throws, handbags and cushions we stock are all made from recycled plastic. All our glassware is also made from recycled materials.”
“A lot of the furniture we stock is produce from old wood that has been up cycled to make beautiful solid bits of furniture which are all unique.”
Dave says he and Sarah are enjoying life in Beverley, while their dog Chalky seems to be enjoying life too.
The couple who were recently married describe their business as a ‘Typical Yorkshire Family Firm’ with Dave, a bubbly character, branding himself as Arkwright of the operation.
Commenting on how they are finding life in the town Dave said;
“We have a history with Beverley. My brother in laws family are horse trainers. We wanted to move from the sticks into a town and we found the property and fell in love it.”
“People here in Beverley seem really lovely. We are certainly enjoying living in the town centre and starting to discover some of the many things Beverley has to offer.”
Lighting & Living of Beverley, which is located on North Bar Within and is dog friendly opens Tuesday to Saturday.
