Volunteer To Help With The Summer Reading Challenge 2016 In The East Riding

East Riding Libraries are looking for enthusiastic volunteers aged 16 and over to help with this year’s Summer Reading Challenge – Big Friendly Read 2016.

The Summer Reading Challenge – produced by the Reading Agency – encourages children aged 4 to 11 to read six books during the school summer holidays. This year’s Challenge will celebrate 100 years since the birth of Roald Dahl, the world’s number one storyteller, and will be packed with gloriumptious treats and squiffling surprises for everyone.

To get involved as a volunteer, which can be for as little as two hours a week, applicants must be aged 16 or over, on or before 4 June 2016.

Councillor Richard Burton, portfolio holder for civic wellbeing and culture, said : “Volunteering for the Summer Reading Challenge can help to give you a respected reference for employment, and a chance to develop your skills. You will also make new friends, and add invaluable experience to your CV – and make a difference to your local community.”

Librarian Jess Thewlis added : “ This year’s Challenge, with its Roald Dahl theme, promises to be great fun – we hope that lots of people will want to volunteer to help in 2016.”

Places are limited, so early applications are advised. Applicants should be able to attend an Interview and Training Session in Beverley on either Saturday 11 or Saturday 18 June.
