Bridlington North Library to undergo major refurbishment thanks to £250,000 government grant

Thanks to government funding, Bridlington North Library is set for a major transformation, including a complete ground floor refurbishment and the addition of an innovative junior sensory room.

With £250,000 funding from the Department for Culture, Media and Sport’s Libraries Improvement Fund as well as additional council funding, the project will transform Bridlington North Library. This is following the successful reopening of Bridlington Central Library this summer which also benefitted from the funding.

Jack the Ripper – The Legacy’ at the East Riding Theatre

Beverley Theatre Company (BTC) are pleased to announce that their next production will be a brand new play telling the story of Jack the Ripper and his victims. Written by BTC members Anthony Musgrave and Nev Slater, who wrote the very well-received version of Dracula that sold-out at ERT in 2023, the storyline is a mixture of fact and fiction, giving the victims of Jack the Ripper a voice and telling us their perspective on events.

September Heritage Open Days include more than 100 free events

There’s plenty to do across the East Riding in September including over 100 free Heritage Open Days taking place between Friday, 12 and Sunday, 21 September.

The Beverley and District Civic Society has produced a 44 page programme including venues and events in Beverley, Bridlington, Cottingham, Goole, Hornsea, Howden and Swanland plus other villages in the East Riding, such as Aike, Bishop Burton, Etton, Holme on Spalding Moor, Pocklington, Rudston, Skirlaugh, Whitgift.

The zoo team at Sewerby Hall and Gardens are delighted to announce that a name has been chosen for the new, female Humboldt penguin chick.

Following a lively public vote which took place on Sewerby Hall and Gardens’ social media, the name Pebble took the lead and has been chosen as the winning name.

£345,000 road improvement scheme to begin in Low Catton

A large road improvement scheme, to improve the C35 between White Thorn Farm and Smeaton Road, is set to commence. The £345,000 project, undertaken by East Riding of Yorkshire Council’s network surfacing team, will start on Monday 1 September. The works will run for up to 3 weeks between 8am and 5pm.

Two providers of special educational needs and disabilities (SEND) support in Hull are celebrating after being presented with certificates to recognise their efforts in promoting active and sustainable travel to staff and students.
