A baker with shops across Yorkshire and the North East has pledged to work towards having 100% green packaging with the launch of a new compostable bag – a first in the industry.
Replacing all of its plastic carriers from January, Thomas the Baker will instead be offering customers TUV-certified compostable bags made from potato starch.
A well-known Yorkshire bakery is celebrating receiving the first-ever 3-star Great Taste award given to a sweet mince pie in the awards’ 25-year history.
Thomas the Baker was awarded the 3-star Great Taste award for its Heavenly Sweet Mince Pie. Only 205 of the 12,777 products entered into the awards, which came from 106 different countries, received the coveted 3-star award.

All of Thomas’ 30 stores across Yorkshire and the North East will also be offering a free taste of its popular Vegetable Pasty, which has recently been redeveloped to be suitable for vegans, from Monday 20 to Friday 24 January.
A Yorkshire baker has handed over a cheque for £11,000 to Kidney Research UK following a year of fundraising – marking the firm reaching a milestone £100,000 total donation to charity over the last 10 years.
With help from their customers and team Thomas the Baker, which has 30 stores across Yorkshire and the North East, has set about raising money for its ‘charity of the year’ for the last decade.
Thomas the Baker has donated £2,000 to the Martin House hospice for children and young people, which has been raised from the 5p charge for a carrier bag.
The bakery, which has 30 stores across Yorkshire and the North East, sets aside the money paid for any carrier bags within its stores and donates it to a range of local causes.
