Council Leads The Way In Promoting Private Hire Safety

Private hire firms in the East Riding are one of the first in the country to take part in a mandatory accreditation scheme designed to promote public safety and raise standards.

The private hire operators’ accreditation scheme has been implemented by East Riding of Yorkshire Council’s licensing team and will see operators display a star rating, similar to the food hygiene ratings given to food outlets.

From 16th October, East Riding of Yorkshire Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG), supported by clinicians, is introducing a health and wellbeing programme for smokers and people with a BMI of and/or greater than 35 to encourage local residents to improve their wellbeing and live the healthiest lives possible.

The CCG’s vision is to prevent ill health and encourage people to live healthier lifestyles by actively promoting healthy behaviours.

Residents in Molescroft who were promised a consultation by East Riding Council on yellow lines on their streets, have been left frustrated after being told by the Council that they will have to wait 18 months for anything to be done, and that even then it might not happen.

In April, residents of Orchard Garth, Orchard Close and Woodhall Way approached their ward councillors with a petition calling for yellow lines on their streets because of continual problems with cars parking and blocking access on Orchard Garth and restricting access for emergency services, delivery vehicles and refuse collection lorries.

A private hire firm in Bridlington has ceased trading with immediate effect after an appeal by the operator against the revocation of his licence was withdrawn.

Ian Sharp, of South Dene Hotel in Bridlington and the operator of Q Cars, had his licence revoked in February by East Riding of Yorkshire Council following concerns around issues including safeguarding and public protection; record keeping, his conduct and breaches of his operators’ licence.

The owners of a garden centre in Sigglesthorne which was found to be selling items which posed a serious fire risk to customers have been fined £18,000 by magistrates.

Woodthorpe Hall Garden Centre Ltd, who are based in Lincolnshire and own Hornsea Garden Centre, appeared at Beverley Magistrates Court on Wednesday, 6 September where they pleaded guilty to nine offences of offering for sale furniture and cushions that did not comply with fire safety regulations.

Major Improvement Scheme To Start At Beverley Roundabout

East Riding of Yorkshire Council has announced that a major highway improvement scheme is planned to start on the A1079 Killingwoldgraves Roundabout on Monday, 11 September, 2017, and is expected to be completed by the end of 2017.

The scheme involves widening the A1079 leg from Hull along with the A1174 and A1035 legs to provide longer two-lane approaches and entries to the junction, and also providing two lanes for circulation on the roundabout itself.

A bus company is to launch a new later service to help two villages near Beverley following a request from residents.

East Riding of Yorkshire Council is appealing for information to help find the owners of 10 sunken vessels in the River Hull located between Tickton and Beverley Beck, as it finalises plans to remove them in September.

The vessels have been identified as causing an obstruction in the river and it was decided to remove them as part of the River Hull Integrated Catchment Strategy (RHICS), adopted by the River Hull Board in July 2015 and supported by the Humber Local Enterprise Partnership, designed to improve the flow of the river and reduce the risk of flooding for local communities.
