Council Reaffirms Commitment To Bringing Empty Properties Back Into Use

East Riding of Yorkshire Council has stepped up its efforts to bring long term empty properties back into use to benefit those in housing need.

In 2016, the East Riding of Yorkshire contained approximately 145,000 households of which 1,724 were classed as long term empty, meaning they have been empty for six months or more.

A lifelike audiovisual installation of a mighty Bowhead whale, highlighting Hull’s whaling heritage at the Maritime Museum will start next month as part of the 2017 UK City of Culture Made in Hull programme.

Music students from the University of Hull have teamed up with students at Hull School of Art and Design, working with the Maritime Museum to bring the installation to life, offering an insight into the Greenland Right Whale, the species that was the focus of the Hull’s whaling industry.

Connexin Team Up With Council To Bring Free Wi-Fi To Hull

From today, Wednesday 21 December, free Wi-Fi will be available at the Marina and Princes Dock Street, ahead of City of Culture’s opening event, ‘In with a Bang’.

Local company Connexin were appointed earlier in the year to deliver free open air Wi-Fi across the city centre, including Jameson Street, King Edward Street, Queen Victoria Square, Whitefriargate, parts of the Old Town, Queens Gardens and Paragon Interchange, with a view to extending coverage even further across the city during 2017.
