Work to implement a new 20mph zone in Hull’s Old Town area, as part of the safety improvement scheme for Lowgate, has been given the greenlight to progress by Hull City Council.

The new 20mph zone aims to reduce the risk of accidents for all road users near Hull College and the retail and entertainment venues located between George Street and the A63 Castle Street. The zone will also cover Savile Street, Vernon Street, Queens Dock Avenue, Princes Dock Street, Guildhall Road, Alfred Gelder Street and the side streets off Lowgate that border the River Hull, which are home to a number of businesses that form part of the night-time economy.

Children at Rokeby Park Primary School have been learning vital skills to be able to make their own way to school on two-wheels thanks to several council-funded initiatives.

On Monday 30 June, Bikeability training, which is part of the city’s active travel programme to get more kids cycling, was delivered at the school, which is in Hull’s Pickering Ward.

East Riding of Yorkshire Council is taking action in response to reports of repeated antisocial behaviour and criminal damage at the cemetery in Bridlington, on Sewerby Road.

Council officers have spoken with schools in the area about appropriate behaviour and correct places in which students should play.

Staff, residents and supporters of HICA Group, a Yorkshire headquartered not-for-profit social care provider, have raised more than £2,600 from its annual Tour De HICA event. They reached an impressive 1,962 miles in just 24 hours to support wellbeing initiatives across the organisation.

During the challenge, five bikes and a treadmill at HICA’s central office were kept in near-constant motion, with teams cycling through the day and night.

East Yorkshire Buses is strengthening the reliability of its services by developing the skills of their engineers.

Its parent company Go-Ahead is making a multi-million-pound investment in engineering. This includes creating two leading engineering academies to train new apprentices and to upskill its 900 engineers across the UK.

The Humber and North Yorkshire Local Maternity and Neonatal System (HNY LMNS) proudly hosted a landmark conference “Belonging and Inclusion in Maternity and Neonatal Care”.

The first-of-its-kind one-day conference, held at the University of Hull, promised to “shine a light on equity, diversity and inclusion in maternity and neonatal services”.

WISHH, the local Charity which raises funds solely to support the Hull Royal Infirmary and Castle Hill hospitals has appointed Carl Wheatley as its first Chief Executive.

Carl will take up the post on 21 July and joins WISHH from Hull based NAPA (the Northern Academy of Performing Arts) where he has been Chief Executive for 6 years. He brings extensive experience in charity leadership, fundraising, and public engagement. Prior to his role at NAPA, he was a familiar voice as a senior BBC presenter and journalist.

A programme of free online sessions is now available to mark Safeguarding Week, which begins on Monday 16 June.

Partners from Safeguarding Adults Boards, Safeguarding Children Partnerships and Community Safety Partnerships across Hull, North Yorkshire, the City of York Council, and East Riding of Yorkshire Council have come together and developed an extensive programme of learning events, seminars and interactive sessions.

A concrete barrier is to be installed on a road outside a Driffield school to help ensure the safety of pupils, staff and families. 

East Riding of Yorkshire Council is due to place the temporary barrier along Northfield Road outside Driffield Northfield Infant School. 

Sewerby Hall gardens and zoo are hosting a variety of exciting events and activities for the whole family during the summer holidays. This includes puppet shows, magic and face painting, immersive story telling adventures, and weekly Wildcats activities.

Sewerby Hall will celebrate Yorkshire Day on Friday 1 August. There will also be a family fun day with bouncy slides and bubbles on Sunday 3 August,  followed by zoo activities, and Car club gatherings on Sunday 6 July, Sunday 10 and 17 August. Additionally, the ICONIC BRICKS Pirates! Exhibition will launch on Friday 22 August.
