On Friday 6 June, residents and visitors will be able to attend the unveiling of two new wooden carved sculptures celebrating the area’s influence on J.R.R Tolkien’s work.

The event will take place at All Saints Church in Roos, East Riding of Yorkshire.

Hull City Council and local charity, R-evolution, are celebrating the continued growth of the Trinity Market Cycle Hub, which saw an increase in repairs, donations, parking and public engagement in 2024/25.

Last year, the number of people using the hub’s free, secure indoor cycle parking increased to 4,830, up 23% on 2023/24 when 3,905 people used the facility.

Champney Treasure House, in Beverley, is hosting an exhibition to highlight the High Wolds Poetry Festival.

Poetry for All centres around the High Wolds Poetry Festival, a partnership between East Riding museums and local poets. The festival is set to take place at Kilham village hall on Saturday 27 September, after being held in North Dalton for the last six occasions.

Now in its 11th year, National Hoarding Awareness Week is an annual campaign to raise awareness of hoarding and those with a hoarding disorder.

Hoarding Awareness Week will take place from the 12 to 16 May and will focus on promoting a greater understanding and acceptance of hoarding and how those affected by it can be supported to achieve positive change.

Hull City Council is calling on the people of Hull to come forward and consider fostering as part of a major awareness drive for this upcoming Foster Care Fortnight (13–26 May 2025).

With one of the highest populations of looked-after children in the country, Hull urgently needs more foster carers to keep children safe, supported and close to the city they call home.

Foster Care Fortnight, running from 12 to 25 May, celebrates the dedication of East Riding foster carers, and raise awareness of the growing need for more people to consider fostering.

The Fostering Network’s annual campaign this year focuses on ‘the power of relationships’. Throughout the week East Riding Fostering is encouraging foster carers to take an hour to nurture relationships – from taking a walk, sharing a cake to hosting a family fun day!

700 low-income households in the East Riding will be provided with energy efficiency upgrades, due to East Riding of Yorkshire Council and government funding.

£1.6 million has been provided by the Warms Home Local Grant, from the Department for Energy and Net Zero (DESNZ), for free energy works to 103 private sector homes. Eligible properties across the region will receive wall insulation, loft top up, glazing improvements, and heating upgrades.

Los Angeles-based author Debbie Wastling will visit the East Riding, as part of East Riding Libraries’ author events, for a series of talks and meet and greets.

Debbie Wastling, born and raised in the East Riding, has written three novels, including her latest, The Sutherland Scandals. She will be presenting historical photos and reading from the novel, at local libraries in the East Riding.
