As a local art exhibition kicks off for the 24th time, it’s a good time to consider how art has taken its place as a key activity in Beverley and East Yorkshire. Where can you find interesting pieces of art here, and how has it entered other areas of our lives?
The Current Event
Beverley Art Gallery at the Champney Treasure House is currently hosting an exhibition that lets the public enjoy the work of over 100 local artists. According to the organisers, the work that they have chosen to put on display shows us the “incredible creative talent” that can be found in East Yorkshire.
Over 300 artists vied for inclusion here, with the panel of judges finally settling on 126 pieces to put on display. The public will be able to vote in the People’s Choice Award, while the judges will also be awarding a series of prizes. This exhibition is due to run until the 18th December. Its doors ar going to be open from Monday to Sunday each week until then.
The History of Art in East Yorkshire
Beverley Art Gallery is just one of the places in East Yorkshire that help us see how important art has been in this region over the years. Goole Museum and Hull and East Riding Museum of Archaeology also contain numerous exhibits that let visitors appreciate the wealth of art in the region. Google Museum contains works of art like The Nancy of Goole, among the Reuben Chappell paintings there.
The earliest examples include incredibly well-preserved Roman mosaics at the Hull and East Riding Museum, which come from the villas that once stood in Brantingham, Horkstow and Rudston. More modern creations could be found earlier this year at the 11th Annual Open Art Exhibition, which was held at Goole Museum.
Art’s Influence on Modern Online Entertainment
The fact that art isn’t just contained in the region’s galleries and museums means that it’s still affecting our daily lives and modern types of online entertainment. Check out an online streaming service, and you’ll see art-focused shows like Abstract: The Art of Design and the Andy Warhol Diaries on Netflix. Apple TV+ has shows such as The Exhibit: Finding the Next Great Artist, which gives contestants the chance to see their work hung at the Smithsonian’s Hirshhorn Museum.
Art can also be increasingly found in the online casino world. This live casino UK game selection features the likes of roulette and baccarat, live-streamed from studio settings where the background and dealers’ clothes fit the chosen themes. Among the different themes, we can see Art Deco and Asian luxury styles used to create a unique atmosphere in each game. These games show how art can be subtly incorporated into other types of entertainment to create something new.
Visiting a local art gallery or museum exhibition is a great starting point for understanding the importance and influence of art in the modern world. However, once you start exploring online entertainment options, you’ll see that art is now present in many more places than ever before, making it easier to enjoy.
