The East Riding County Football Association have obtained White Ribbon accreditation, signing up to the campaign prevent violence against women and girls in the East Riding.
As part of the required governance structure, East Riding County FA produced a new Diversity and Inclusion Strategy, which includes a commitment to behaviours and culture that enables the game to be safe and enjoyable for all who work, play and volunteer within the local football community.
The organisation states there is no place for discriminatory or abusive behaviours within the game of football, and the White Ribbon Accreditation provides an important benchmark in laying the foundations for challenging negative attitudes and creating a safe and inclusive environment for everyone.
Challenging violence and abuse against women and girls represent both a safeguarding and inclusion commitments which are at the heart of the core values and culture of East Riding County FA.
The White Ribbon campaign, a charity, leads the way on ending violence against women and girls by addressing the root causes of men’s violence against women. It tackles harmful attitudes, behaviours and systems around rigid gender norms and harmful expressions of masculinity, that perpetuate gender inequality and gender-based violence.
Councillor Lyn Healing, East Riding of Yorkshire Council cabinet member for communities and public protection, said “It’s great to see sporting organisations join the White Ribbon campaign. It’s vital that all sections of our community play our part in ending violence against women and girls, and I encourage interested organisations to find out more and get involved.”
