In a unanimous decision, City Council’s Cabinet has approved the Western Docklands Masterplan, paving the way for a consultation with residents and business owners.

There are three areas within the Western Docklands: Albert and William Wright Docks, Castle Street, and Smith & Nephew.

A variety of uses are suggested for the site, with a strong focus on employment land to the west and residential/commercial and leisure land to the east.

Hull residents and local businesses are being asked to provide their opinions.

From Monday 6 February to Friday 17 March, a six-week consultation will take place.

Kingston Retail Park and Hull Ice Arena are also being considered in the plans.

The survey and drop-in sessions will be open to local businesses, residents, and the general public.

Additionally, the master plan outlines ways to improve the connection between the Fruit Market and the marina.

Also included in the proposals is a cruise terminal at Western Docklands.

Although Sammy’s Point was originally proposed as the location, it has now been suggested that the terminal be located at Albert Dock’s Bull Nose.

Councillor Paul Drake-Davis, Portfolio Holder for Regeneration, said:

“The Western Docklands is a key landmark location within the city, being beside the waterfront, but also being the gateway for people driving into the city.

“It’s a site with enormous potential and the masterplan provides a clear framework for how the site could offer high-quality city living and employment in the years ahead.

“I support the master plan and look forward to hearing the views of landowners, businesses and residents across the city on how they would like to see the area develop.”

Online information such as interactive maps and forums, as well as a chance for the public to comment, will be available.

Various posters about the Western Docklands Masterplan will be displayed in Hull, along with QR codes for online consultations.

As a result of this consultation, the council will draft a final version of the masterplan, which will then be presented to the Cabinet later this year.
