Over 65,000 East Riding households have received their £150 energy rebate, with the East Riding of Yorkshire Council has paid out a total of £9.7 million so far.
The council started processing payments earlier this week to eligible residents who pay their council tax by direct debit.
From May onwards, an estimated 35,000 households will receive their £150 rebate based on when the council receives a successful payment from their account and on the day their direct debit is processed.
In the event that a direct debit cancellation is made before payment has been received, no rebate will be automatically paid, and a letter advising them on what steps to take will be sent.
Those living in the East Riding who aren’t directly deducted from their bank accounts should have received or will soon receive a letter through the mail inviting them to fill out an online rebate application form on the council’s website. Checks for prepayment will be issued prior to payment.
The system has been used by around 5,000 customers who have filled out the application form and provided their bank details. Payments should be received from May if the accounts can be verified.

In the meantime, eligible households who have not received their letters are politely asked to wait until they arrive through the post and not to contact the council’s contact team until then, as the team is dealing with a large number of calls.
Councillor John Holtby, deputy leader of East Riding of Yorkshire Council with responsibility for corporate services, said:
“Distributing funding to support households who are struggling with their energy costs is extremely important. However, this is a significant and complex piece of work and the council is working hard to process payments as quickly as possible.”
