Humberside Fire and Rescue Service (HFRS) has published its Strategic Plan and Integrated Risk Management Plan (IRMP) for 2021 – 2024.

HFRS stakeholders were consulted in relation to both plans, having been asked questions relating to what they expect from their Fire and Rescue Service, with the responses helping to shape the information that the plans convey.

Chris Blacksell, Chief Fire Officer and Chief Executive of Humberside Fire and Rescue Service said:

“It was especially important to ask our communities what they expect us to do well because they are an integral part of what we do. We need to understand them and allow them to shape the services we provide, keep them safe, respond to them when needed and treat them openly and fairly, and I believe we do this.

“As an example, we received overwhelming feedback to continue to support our colleagues in and so we will continue to build upon our response to medical emergencies.

“What our communities expect us to do well, in addition to what we must do well from a legal perspective, has helped to inform both our plans.”

The HFRS Strategic Plan is used as an internal tool first and foremost, to present to staff the areas of focus for the organisation, and how they play a part in achieving the overall aim of ensuring Safer Communities and Safer Firefighters. It also explains what HFRS needs to do in order to constantly improve and compliments the Integrated Risk Management Plan.

The Integrated Risk Management Plan, or IRMP, is an information source for HFRS communities and a planning tool for the organisation.

All Fire and Rescue Services have a duty to publish an IRMP, the format of which can largely be decided by the Service itself.

The IRMP explains the risks within local communities and what Humberside Fire and Rescue Service do to help manage and reduce those risks, including the standards communities can expect when HFRS respond to emergency incidents.

John Briggs, Chair of the Fire Authority said: “Both the Strategic Plan and IRMP are key documents for Humberside Fire and Rescue Service.

“It’s pleasing to see that one particular area of focus within the Strategic Plan is how HFRS looks after its members of staff.

“Already in place is a refreshed Occupational Health and Wellbeing provision, including an Employee Assistance Programme, and a commitment to increasing diversity by actively recruiting those from underrepresented groups.”
