MP Applies Pressure To Issues Face By Beverley Residents

Graham Stuart, MP for Beverley and Holderness, virtually met residents who live in Kings Square, Beverley and representatives from Yorkshire Water to discuss issues with low water pressure in their homes.

Graham invited Yorkshire Water to explain after several residents contacted him. Residents reported they have been unable to use their showers; the water flow completely stops at the most inopportune moments, and some evenings the water pressure is so low that the boiler does not fire up.

Residents had contacted Yorkshire Water on various occasions to request an investigation. Prompt engineer visits were welcome, but they had not provided a solution.

Work is now needed to identify whether the problem lies in the junction with Yorkshire Water’s main, or in pipework once it enters residents’ gardens and homes. Most houses share pipework in this area and were built when water demand was lower.

Graham said;

“I am really pleased I was able to get Yorkshire Water together with some residents. Quite frankly we don’t know what is causing the low water pressure problem, but it is really good news that Yorkshire Water is keen to be as helpful as possible to residents so we can come to a compromise that is cost-effective and will result in residents’ water pressure improving.

“We need to find out how many houses have this low water pressure problem and who wants a joint project, so I will be talking to Yorkshire Water in the next few days to gather some information which I can send out to all residents in Kings Square.”

Jade Botterill, Corporate Affairs Advisor for Yorkshire Water said;

“We know low pressure can be really inconvenient and I’m pleased we were able to speak to the residents of Kings Square on Friday, to see how we might be able to help. From the investigations we have carried out, it looks like the pressure issues are caused by private pipes connecting the properties to our network.

“We will continue to work closely with Graham and the residents to help them find a solution and resolve their issue.”
