A delicatessen with a difference has opened its doors in Brough. The new Grübb Delicatessen is the brainchild of food lovers, best friends and business partners Rhys Duerden and Rob Page, who both live in and love the East Riding village.

They expect their new venture to be frequented by the villagers of Elloughton, Brough and those from villages nearby, those that work in the area and commuters heading out on the East Coast mainline.

This exciting contemporary delicatessen, located on Welton Road, will specialise in sandwiches, home-baked pastries, cakes, soups and chilled meats roasted on-site and also promises to sere the ‘best fresh coffee going’.

There is never an easy time to establish a new business but, against the backdrop of an uncertain economy, co-owners Rob and Rhys have rolled up their sleeves to bring something new to the East Riding. The duo’s steely determination, entrepreneurial spirit and clear vision will play its part in the business’s success.

Rob said: “We’re both incredibly excited about this new venture in the place that we love. There’s no better place to set up a delicatessen. Brough is a great location and we’re in an ideal spot to attract customers. We sincerely hope they like our vision for what a deli should be and become Grübb regulars.”

Rhys said: “We’re planning on hitting the ground running. Grübb offers its customers premium food and coffee and our service will match that. It’s also a very convenient option for the people of Brough and the surrounding area. We’ve put a lot of work in so far and the hard work is about to start but its definitely a dream come true for both of us. We’re obviously hoping that Grübb is a big success with customers and we can’t wait to hear their feedback.”

The idea for Grübb, a long pipe dream for this pair of foodies, was hatched as the Welton Cricket Club teammates devoured a post-match cricket club tea. They realised that there was definitely a gap in the market for high-quality food and catering in the area. Rob also provided the catering for Rhys’s wedding in spring 2019 and their plans picked up pace quickly after that. Six months of plotting, planning and hard work to ensure the Welton Road premises matched their ideas for a dream deli later, and Grübb is now set to raise the bar for Brough’s food offer.

Grübb opened their doors on January 8. For its first two weeks, Grübb will be open from 10am until 3pm. Rob and Rhys are hoping their menu offers food lovers everything they are hungry for but are also happy to take suggestions to extend the menu. An official launch event will take place later in the month.

Grübb The Delicatessen is located at 57B Welton Road, Brough, East Riding of Yorkshire. Grübb also offers catering for the workplace and events.
