North Yorkshire trainer Marjorie Fife has challenged B Fifty Two to roll back the years at Beverley on Thursday when the popular sprinter runs in the Racing UK Handicap.

The nine-year-old gelding, who was rated as highly as 107 in his pomp, made a reassuring return to form at Carlisle last week, when beaten a neck by Kingstreet Lady.

B Fifty Two has only won once this year – at Pontefract in April – but Fife is confident the son of Dark Angel will go well on the .

He will be having a 72nd career start but this will be his first outing at Beverley.

Stillington-based Fife said: “He seems to have turned a corner, happily.

“He’s enjoying life again now and he ran a blinder at Carlisle last time, when it was just the weight that stopped him.

“He’s a grand old horse and it’s good that Harrison (Shaw) rides him. He knows the horse well and also claims 5lb, so it’s all pretty promising really.

“He’s never been to Beverley before but he’s won at Pontefract so that should stand him in good stead for a race like this.

“I’ve never had a winner at Beverley – we’ve had countless hard-luck stories – but we’re hoping for a very big run from him.”

B Fifty Two faces 15 rivals in the five-furlong Racing UK Handicap (3.30), including six-time course scorer Bondi Beach Boy, trained by David Griffiths.

Seamster, Poppy In The Wind, Arnold, Compton River are other Beverley winners in what looks a fascinating contest.

Feature race on Beverley’s fixture is the Weatherbys General Stud Book Handicap (4.00), which has attracted five runners.

Mark Johnston won the two-mile affair in 2015 with Duke Street and saddles Precision, while Keith Dalgleish is responsible for Tommy Docc.

Ed Dunlop sends Dagueneau from Newmarket, with Blue Hussar completing the line-up for the Micky Hammond operation.

The going at Beverley is good to firm, with sunny intervals and a high of 20C forecast ahead of the seven-race card, which starts at 2pm.
