Cherry Burton Residents are celebrating after they finally got a safe footpath in the village following a wait lasting over 10 years.

Funding for the project to install the ‘Cherry Burton Trod’ was awarded by the EU LEADER project, together with a contribution from the Parish Council.

Ros Stanley  said;

“Before the trod, villagers in Cherry Burton had to walk on the 60mph road which is also on a National Cycling Route.”

“Families with young children and those not able to leap onto the verge to avoid passing traffic were unable to walk to the Hudson Way or enjoy the scenic nature of Etton Road.”

“Now thanks to the new path, families and the less agile are able to walk safely, but it is not just for walking.”

The Trod was opened officially opened by Hazel Armstrong, Chair of the Hull & East Yorkshire Joint Local Access Forum  ( JLAF) and was attended by Peter Ayling, President of the East Yorkshire and Derwent Area Ramblers, members of the Parish Council, and an enthusiastic group of Cherry Burton residents.

Now open, The Cherry Burton Trod is sure to be used as this new rural path on the verge of Etton Road offers a safe and practical connection between  the village to the Hudson Way – the old railway line.
