Beverley Town Football Club are say they are looking forward to their ‘Evening With Paul Merson’ which sold out in a matter of days.
The event, which is sponsored by De Lacy Spa is being held at Beaver Park with the club looking to raise cash to help fund the three senior teams through ticket sales and by holding a prize draw.
Commenting on the event, organiser and second team manager Ed Grady said;
“This will be a great night for the club, we are certainly looking forward to Paul sharing his stories from his career which I’m sure will give us an excellent insight into his career.”
“It will be great to have Ben there to who will bring a lot of laughter to the evening. Big thanks to Beverley Rugby club for hosting the event and Kate Dalton at the club who has helped to make the planning stage run smoothly.”
Paul Merson enjoyed a glittering career though his greatest achievements came while playing for Arsenal, where he was a true fans favourite winning two league titles, a European title, FA Cup and League Cup.
Merson was part of the Arsenal team, that in 1989 went to Anfield and against all the odds beat the mighty Liverpool 2-0 to win the League title.
His story however has had its fair share of ups and downs battling with his personal demons to overcome his addiction to drugs and booze.
Merson will be joined by BBC Match of the day kick about and comedian, Beverley’s very own Ben Shires who will compare the evening.
Grady added;
“While the event is a sell out any can enter the prize draw. We have some great prizes including a 4 ball at Beverley Golf Club, 2 Nights at the Granary worth £160, Vicar Lane, Bodyflex Gym – One month’s free membership plus many more.”
